Pilgrimage for Self Transformation

It is a common belief in indian culture that pilgrimage  or tirtha as they call in hindi is a great religious endeavor and is essential for the true devotees of God and that it helps soul in liberation from the past sins. The very fact that people go on a pilgrimage shows that they have a desire to get some kind of religious experience from which they hope to benefit either in terms of getting rid of their sins or finding more peace or having other wishes fulfilled. But rarely does it bring about a permanent change in their life or in their way of thinking or behavior. And it’s a fact that no one would completely deny, coz once they are back from the pilgrimage, people resume their old ways of living and any uplifting or elevated experience that they have had on pilgrimage, remains just a temporary experience that may, at the most, be cherished by them all their life. Thus, it does not result in any elevation in their consciousness because most of us fail to understand a

Why Women ?

India which is considered to be the oldest civilization in the world is full of paradoxes that can be seen and experienced by every citizen who calls himself/herself and indian as well as by those people who visit the country to experience its ancient culture. So deep rooted are these paradoxes that sometimes one wonders at the level of tolerance that Indians possess within them. Since time immemorial women have always been at the receiving end of all kinds of atrocities committed in the form of wars, terrorist attacks , domestic quarrels and most recently now extremism of male domination. You goto any part of the world, and you would find a lot of cases where women are exploited from the time they are born till the time they die. So, the question that arises here is that ‘ Why Women ?’. Why this hypocrisy ??? On one side women in Goddess form are worshipped by men & on other side the same men keep on exploiting them ?? Is this Justice ? Everyone who is living on this

Acceptance: Key to Reduce Emotional Suffering

We all experience pain in our day to day life coz its inevitable and it is a part of being human. Our pain might stem from losing a dear one, losing our job, a bad break up, a fatal accident or undergoing any other kind of trauma or situation. However, when we hide from facing or accepting the reality, we create suffering. Therefore it should be clearly understood that we are the sole creator of good and bad in our life and hence its futile to blame others by saying things like -- It’s not fair, why me? There is a deep instinct in most of us to fight the pain we experience deep within, however in most cases it backfires and we end up experiencing double pain. The reason behind this is our tendency to avoid and in some cases hide our pain or pretend that it isn’t present. A wise person would instead accept the reality and become light instead of getting heavy on mind because accepting simply means that you stop trying to deny your reality

Habit Formation & Re-formation

There is no doubt in it that almost everyone in this world has one or other bad habit..Dont we all have ?. Like, many people have the bad habit of smoking. But, if you tell them that it is a bad habit, some of them will bring in a little bit of philosophy and some would try to support it with medical opinion also. They will say, "Smoking is very exhilirating. It is good for my brain because it brings me concentration." Others will say, "Smoking keeps my bowels free." Others still will confess that it is a bad habit which they find hard to give up. Little do most people realise that it is a bad habit which pollutes their physical system and the atmosphere and causes diseases like cancer. Such examples of bad habits can be multiplied, but, what we need to understand from these examples is that, in most cases, people do not realise that it is a bad or a harmful habit and where this truth is realised, there isn't the strong desire to get free from

Soul Consciousness and Body Consciousness

Shakespeare had rightly said “For there is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.” The fact is that even though we are not faced with sabre-toothed tigers every day, but, life presents us with lots of situations which can be perceived as threatening that naturally triggers stress response from within us. For e.g : if you climb staircase instead of taking a lift to your 4th floor apartment and immediately after entering home, you experience uncomfortable symptoms like a pounding heart and excessive sweating, you might instantly get this thought that, “Gosh, I’m not as fit as I used to be, maybe I need to see my doctor and get a thorough checkup”. Now suppose instead of having a negative thought on entering home, if you just sit down calmly and do a simple deep breathing exercise, you may feel completely fine in a few minutes and you would continue with your day as usual without any great change in how you feel. We must thus understand a fact that our mind has tremendous power over
