Restoration of Morality, Tolerance and Humility

Off lately there has been a growing realisation among number of people that most of the problems in our lives have arisen due to lack or infringement of moral, spiritual or human values. It is now also being felt that our ultra-materialistic outlook, especially our craze for machine-culture has resulted in our present predicament. We have gradually lost the human aspect of our life and have become more or less like machines, as a result of which there is no spirit of friendship, fellow-feeling and love in our life. There are of course many values, which we must observe for a harmonious and peaceful living ,out of those tolerance is one such value, that can change a lot in our life, of course positively. We must know that many of our troubles, turmoils and traumas are due to intolerance. Though people have become aware of this fact but yet there is lot more need for educating people to cultivate this value which, when lost, makes human behaviour uncivilised and barbaric and makes a hell of one's family, professional and community

A Dream Of Nuclear Disarmament

Our nuclear weapons are meant purely as a deterrent against nuclear adventure by an adversary … Atal Bihari Vajpayee There are many optimistic people in the world who think that all the nuclear nations will, one day, bury nuclear weapons deep down into the earth and will forget about it too. Not many of us know about a fact that around 64 years ago, the world was free of nuclear weapons, but after the production of some 1,40,000 of these artifacts of mass destruction, there seems to be a significant shift in the role some Governments across the world whose leaders have now understood that nuclear weapons are intrinsically dangerous and they pose an unparalleled threat to the very existence of humankind. These learned souls have also realized that these weapons of mass destruction do not enhance a country's security but, rather, imperil the survival of all nations. Alfred Nobel, in whose memory the famous Nobel Prizes are awarded every year, had said : ‘ Let a sword of damocles hang over every head and you will witness a miracle. All

Attachment in Relationships

Attachment is the source of all suffering said Gautam Buddha..Attachment can be positive as well as negative, however experience shows that in most cases it has negative impact on individuals because it brings with it lot of emotional burden which eventually ends up making lives of people miserable who are under attachment with each other. Majority of us do not recognize attachment as a vice, but we must understand that it subtly ties one in bondage to the object of one's attachment, be it a person, thing or place. It makes us hold on to and identify ourselves with other people or things that give us some joy. Our happiness then becomes dependent on that object or person to whom we are attached. Hence, if that object or person suffers any harm or is taken away from us, we suffer pain. So, while that person is not always in front of you, but his/her image is always on your mind and thus you are attaching your 'self to that image on your mind. We need to understand that we

Self Realization : Key to End all Conflicts

We all know that conflicts are a part of our everyday life and they form in our close relations, at a societal level & on an international level. Very often we see conflicts leading to aggression, hostility and war. However conflicts can also be a steppingstone leading to change and wisdom; if we learn to handle them constructively. Since relationship conflicts are inevitable, learning to deal with them in a healthy way is extremely crucial because when a conflict is mismanaged, it can harm the relationship. But when handled in a respectful and positive way, it provides an opportunity for growth, ultimately strengthening the bond between two people.  Any kind of conflict has two dimensions, internal and external. Internal conflicts arise when mind and intellect are moving in opposite direction and external conflicts are caused when people or situations confront us and we are not sure how to cope with them. Some people view conflicts as an opportunity for a change and some see it as a natural global phenomenon. But there are others who feel that conflicts are

Politics & Moral Values

A statement that’s heard nowadays very often in conversations about any political issue is: “Government has no right to enforce morality on other people.” Isn’t it ironical that one section of society keeps on saying that something is immoral, and the other side will claim that it doesn’t matter, that the government should not be in the business of enforcing morality. The idea that government should be morally neutral is an old one. It holds that society can be compared with a complex game in which different people have different goals and follow different values, and the role of the state is to enforce the rules of the game. So the government should be like a referee in a game of football and that it should not take sides or support any one player’s goals and values, but merely ensure that everyone follows the rules. In political parlance, there are two well-known dicta which seem to contradict each other but which have a lot of meaning. Both of these are about governance. One of these says: That government is
